• Account information — display name, email address, and password (hashed) when you sign up with email/password
• Google account data — name and email address when you sign in with Google
• Feedback — any message you submit through the in-game feedback form

Information collected automatically:

• Gameplay data — scores, correct/incorrect answers, lifelines used, categories played, daily challenge results, and Culture Coins earned
• Device and usage data — browser type, operating system, pages visited, and general usage patterns collected via standard server logs
• Approximate region — detected from your browser's time zone setting to display regional leaderboards (city-level data is never collected)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account
• Operate the game, track scores, and display leaderboards
• Record gameplay history and personal bests in your profile
• Calculate and award Culture Coins and achievements
• Enable real-time 1v1 multiplayer features
• Send you service-related communications (account confirmation, password resets)
• Send optional marketing emails if you opted in at signup (you may unsubscribe at any time)
• Detect and prevent fraud, cheating, or abuse
• Analyze usage trends to improve the Service
• Comply with legal obligations

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:

• Publicly visible data — your display name and scores appear on public leaderboards visible to all users
• Service providers — we use Supabase (database and authentication infrastructure) and Vercel (hosting). These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by data processing agreements
• Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process
• Business transfers — if Tech God LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction

4. Third-Party Services

The Service uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase — authentication, database, and real-time features. Supabase processes your email, hashed password (for email/password accounts), and gameplay data. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
• Google OAuth — if you sign in with Google, your name and email are shared with us by Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.
• Vercel — our hosting provider may log request metadata. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

The Service uses browser localStorage and session cookies to:

• Maintain your authentication session (Supabase auth token)
• Remember your display name, mute preference, and daily challenge status across sessions
• Track whether you have already been shown certain notifications

We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking technologies.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or operational purposes. Anonymized aggregate gameplay data may be retained indefinitely.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us at culturechecktrivia@gmail.com and we will promptly delete it.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information (you can update your display name on the profile page at any time)
• Request deletion of your account and associated personal data
• Opt out of marketing emails (each email includes an unsubscribe link)

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed password storage via Supabase Auth, and row-level security on our database. No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy with a new effective date. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
